Subject: A Strange Break-in
I came home this morning at 11:45 am, after being away for 3 hours and
45 minutes, to find that someone had come into my house, taken food out of
the refrigerator and ate it, and left dirty dishes in the sink. They
took a never-used kitchen knife out of a drawer, threw away the cardboard
sheath it came in, slashed open a new package of shredded mozzarella
cheese and enjoyed ( I assume) some of the cheese with about 4 cups of
ground chuck spaghetti sauce I had made. There was no sign of forced
entry, and nothing else was touched (jewelry, medications, etc.). I did
file a police report, though it was a bit embarrassing to do so. It is
one of those stories that seem funny when they happen to someone else,
but it is spooky when it is your house and your food. Of course, I
threw away the rest of the package of cheese. I had just bought lots of
groceries, and now I feel nervous about all of the other food in the
refrigerator.

Donna -
Thanks for sharing your incident. Would you mind if I post your message on
the website? It might help others and perhaps yourself.
A few questions:
- Were your doors and windows locked?
- Do you have an alarm system?
- Has anything like this happened to any of your neighbors?
- What did the police have to say?
- Whereabouts on Pounds are you?
Thanks again -

Marty,
Alerting others is my main reason for emailing the organization. My
windows and doors were locked. No scratches on carport door knob lock.
It must have been easy. I can’t afford an alarm system (I’m unemployed).
The police officer said, “So, they took spaghetti sauce and cheese, but
no noodles?” I asked whether it would be a more serious crime if they
took noodles. How can it really be considered seriously? It is a very
strange crime, with nothing taken except food. The officer said that he
would write a report. As I’m sure you know, Pounds Road is a busy
through street, and folks don’t share much. I have renters on one side
of me and a vacant house on the other. I have been in contact with
neighbors across the street. My carport faces the street, so anyone
could see when my car was gone. I don’t know of any other similar
incidents. Besides being spooked by the fact that someone was in my
house, I was furious when I had to wash the burglar’s dirty dishes! I
thought I gave my address on Pounds in my email. 1678 - third house from
blinking red four way stop at Corinth Cir.
Thanks.
Donna
