Suspicious Person Alert - Michael Allen Buckner
Share this post by email - 2 Comments - View And/Or Add A Comment »I was paid a visit today, at my home, by Michael Allen Buckner who has an extensive arrest record for theft by deception. He came to my door asking for gas money or gas stating that he lived around the corner and had run out. I told him that I recognized him and he hurriedly left. He was driving a dark blue Jeep Cherokee 4×4 with a heavily damaged front end leaving the radiator exposed. I believe the tag number was BQZ 5117.
I immediately called Gwinnett County Police at 770-513-5700 to report the incident. Officer Hall with GCPD arrived at my home within just a few minutes to take my statement. I provided him the postings from this website along with his mug shot and data. Officer Hall stated that there was a flyer of Michael Allen Buckner circulating around the precinct and that they were pursuing him. Officer Hall stated that anyone spotting him should call 9-1-1 immediately.

May 13th, 2011 at 1:34 PMFrom what I gather there would be another attempt at the stadium the following morning. If weather doesn’t permit then they’ll try that same evening at the stadium. If that doesn’t work out they move to the gym, but seating would be restricted. But this is hearsay and not the gospel.

Suspicious Person Alert
Share this post by email - No Comments - Add A Comment »This is an alert as reported by a Garner Rd resident on 02/28/11:
This morning, a man (caucasion, blonde, 40ish, well dressed) knocked on our door at 7:15 AM. I live off Garner Rd., Mt Park area of Lilburn. His story was that his son is sick with asthma and he needed money to buy his medicine because he left his wallet at church yesterday. I did not give him money, and he drove off very quickly when my husband pulled up in our driveway after taking our son to school. After I told my husband the story, he drove off looking for him and found him in the neighborhood behind us ( Beech Forest ?) off Garner , and he was approaching someone else’s door. My husband pulled in behind him and wrote his tag number down. The man rushed toward my husband very nervously asking what he was doing, and my husband let him know that he would be calling the police and reporting his suspicious behavior. He told my husband he was just looking for gas money and he rushed off in his car.
My husband did call the police. He was driving a late model, dark blue, Jeep Cherokee 4×4.
If someone meeting this description comes to your door, call 911 first, then follow up with the non-emergency number (770) 513-5700 if you can identify him.

Evermore CID Eliminates Director Position
Share this post by email - 3 Comments - View And/Or Add A Comment »Yesterday, by a 4-3 vote, the Evermore CID eliminated David Stedman’s position of economic development director. Board member Dwight Harrison had declared that he had gathered enough signatures to also initiate recall proceedings against fellow board members Emory Morsberger and Don Robison.
Stedman had been heading a project called the Stone Mountain Athletic Recreational and Training (SMART) Center which would turn the empty Olympic facility into a destination tennis center. Adjacent properties would be used for sports recreation, training, retail, office and multifamily development. Transportation improvements were included the plan. Many of the developmental partners attended the meeting and left questioning the project’s status.
This is the second time Stedman has been fired by the Evermore CID. Stedman, who was originally hired in 2008, was fired at the end of that year by the CID’s former executive director, Brett Harrell. The board rehired Stedman in May 2009 during a meeting in which Harrell was fired.

Lilburn Sports Complex To Receive County Funding
Share this post by email - 1 Comment - View And/Or Add A Comment »Recovery Zone Economic Development Bonds, aka stimulus bonding capacity, aka stimulus funds… Gwinnett County has been designated a recovery zone by the federal government and allocated $62 million in bonding capacity. Lilburn, Snellville and Berkeley Lake will split the remainder of these funds as decided by the Board of Commissioners last Tuesday.
Berkeley Lake will receive $2 million to aid in dam repairs sustained in last year’s flooding. Snellville is to receive $6.6 million which it intends to use to revitalize its downtown area and to purchase a 10.6 acre tract of land recently foreclosed upon.
Lilburn was granted over $8.6 million for use with a new sports complex deal (see our September 17th post “Lilburn Considering $20 Million Sports Complex“) with Big League Dreams. According to the Gwinnett Daily Post, “another $20 million of the county’s share of recovery zone facility bonds has been allocated to the city’s Big League Dreams idea”.

Evermore CID Infighting Continues
Share this post by email - 3 Comments - View And/Or Add A Comment »Over the past week or two I’ve received several emails from local citizens concerned about the squabbling that seems to be ever-present within the ranks of the Evermore CID.
A little research yielded the following:
An open letter from the Evermore chairman, Dwight Harrison dated 08/30/10 states, “We are poised for more great accomplishments. Unfortunately, a currently divided board has stymied the CID’s efforts. Critical and time-sensitive issues have been on the board’s agenda in July and August with only four of eight board members attending. A minimum of five board members is necessary for the board to conduct business.”
The Gwinnett Daily Post reported Harrison stating on 09/10/10 that “Whether you feel like (Executive Director Jim Brooks) is doing a good job or a bad job, you are appointed or elected to show up and vote,”. “I welcome the 22nd. Hopefully, their comments will be aired and hopefully we can move forward.”
In a letter presented at the meeting, the four absent members — Gary Custar, Emory Morsberger, Jimmy Norton and Don Robison — blamed Harrison for the discord.
In 2009 the board was involved in a stalemate over the fate of former executive director Brett Harrell, which ended when two board members were recalled. Since then bylaws were changed to allow votes that end in a tie twice to be brought before the property owners that participate in the CID. Harrison said the lack of a quorum has stopped that option.
The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 22nd, 2:30 PM at the Stone Mountain Tennis Center
5525 Bermuda Road
Stone Mountain, GA 30087
(770) 979-5800

CorinthHills.org Says:
September 23rd, 2010 at 11:51 AMYesterday’s executive meeting proved to be yet another stalemate with 4-4 votes on a couple of key issues including the executive directors contract. This impasse means that Jim Brooks who was hired a year ago will not be back as his contract will expire prior to the tie-breaker vote of the CID property owner membership. This bylaw was added after a similar issue occurred with Brett Herrell last year. It was not foreseen that opposing members of the CID board could stall the process by not attending meetings and voting on the issue.
Another issue left deadlocked by a 4-4 vote was the renewal of Russell Landscape’s maintenance contract. The major concern being that Russell exceeded its contract with the CID by $15,000.

CorinthHills.org Says:
September 30th, 2010 at 1:13 PMA NEW recall effort has been established targeting Emory Morsberger and Don Robison who were elected by the CID membership. Recall petitions are being circulated throughout the CID membership. 20% of the approximately 480 property owner membership would have to sign in order to proceed. Dwight Harrison, CID chairman expects to have the required number of signatures by the end of October.
-
CorinthHills.org Says:
October 1st, 2010 at 7:52 AMJim Brooks, the now former executive director of the Evermore CID, had his contract with the board expire last night. The CID is now operating without an executive director.

Gwinnett Water Usage Updates For Summer 2010
Share this post by email - No Comments - Add A Comment »Per the request of Gwinnett County, we are posting the following water usage schedule and information.
The Georgia Water Stewardship Act signed by Governor Sonny Perdue went into effect June 2, 2010. The bill allows daily outdoor watering for purposes of planting, growing, managing, or maintaining ground cover, trees, shrubs, or other plants from 4:00pm – 10:00am.
All other outdoor water usage (e.g., washing cars, pressure washing) is to follow the watering schedule based on street address shown below:
Monday - Even addresses
Tuesday - Odd addresses
Wednesday - Even addresses
Thursday - Odd addresses
Friday - No other outdoor water usage is permitted
Saturday - Even addresses
Sunday - Odd addresses
Frequently asked questions about outdoor water use:
I heard I can water my yard every day. Is that true?
Yes. Citizens in Georgia can now water any day of the week, regardless of your address, between 4:00pm and 10:00am.
Can I also wash my car or pressure wash my house any day?
No. The new state law only relates to landscape uses—the odd/even schedule remains in place for all other outdoor uses.
Are parks included in the new schedule?
Sports fields and parks are exempt from the hourly restrictions. These areas may be watered any time or day.
If I put in new landscape, do I have to water between 4:00pm and 10:00am?
No. Newly installed landscape is also exempt from the hourly restrictions for the first 30 days following installation.
What about drip irrigation?
Drip irrigation is completely exempt from the outdoor rules. It may be used any time or day.
What exemptions exist to the new hourly restrictions?
• Commercial agriculture
• Alternative sources of water (grey water, rain water, condensate, etc.)
• Irrigation of food gardens
• Irrigation of newly installed or reseeded turf for the first 30 days following installation
• Drip irrigation or soaker hoses
• Hand watering with a shut-off nozzle
• Water from a private well
• Irrigation of plants for sale
• Irrigation of athletic fields, golf courses, or public recreational turf
• Installation and maintenance of irrigation systems
• Hydro seeding
Are professional pressure washers hired to wash my house subject to restrictions based on my address?
No. Commercial businesses are exempt from day of the week restrictions.
Can I have a charity car wash on any day regardless of the address?
No. Unfortunately, charity car washes, like at home car washes, are subject to the odd/even schedule. This is determined by the address of the facility hosting the car wash. Partnering with a professional car wash is exempt from the odd/even schedule due to the company’s professional exemption.
For more information on exemptions and forms to submit violations, visit the Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources’ water conservation webpage through www.gwinnettcounty.com.
More information can be found on the Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources’ water conservation webpage.

Snellvillians Get Their Sunday Alcohol Vote
Share this post by email - No Comments - Add A Comment »After years of much-ado and goings-on, the citizens of Snellville will finally get to vote on Sunday liquor sales. Last night the Snellville City Council agreed to a referendum vote on July 20th.
It’s technically not over as arguments about the laws that govern who - citizens or local governments - are allowed to decide Sunday alcohol sales are still before a judge. Those involved believe that the case will ultimately wind up before the state Supreme Court.
